Metro Sports & Leavenworth High School
present a B-Ball-for-All! weekend, October 16-18, 2009

Two fun opportunities for two great causes:

The Shawn Rodgers Memorial Scholarship Fund
& Leavenworth HS Booster Club!

Metro Sports, in conjunction with the Leavenworth High School Booster Club,  is hosting this B-Ball-for-ALL, 3 on 3 fundraising event, and MORE!, to honor the memory of 26 year old Shawn Rodgers a Leavenworth native, and Metro Sports freelance photographer. (Part of the proceeds also benefit the Booster Club.) Shawn was a fighter, determined not to let circumstances hold him down or back.  Even during his year long fight against cancer, Shawn showed tremendous courage, strength and determination. To honor Shawn’s outstanding character, a Shawn Rodgers Memorial Scholarship fund is being established for a Leavenworth High School student. The Scholarship will be funded in part by our 3 on 3 Basketball tournament. Metro Sports hopes to make this an annual event.

3-on-3 Memorial Basketball Tournament Rules

1.      Each game is 3-on-3 with 20-minute running clock, stopping only for time outs.

2.      Two 30-second time outs per team per game.  Clock stops for time outs.

3.      Substitutions possible after a made basket or a dead ball.

4.      Scoring is 2 points per basket, 3 points for 3-point shot, 1 point for free throw.

5.      The ball changes possession after every score.

6.      All dead ball possessions start at the top of the key.  All dead ball possessions must start with a pass, and defender cannot guard the passer closer than 3 feet.

7.      On every change of possession while the ball is in play (rebound, steal, turnover), offense must take ball past the 3-point line, any place on the court.

8.      Referees will call fouls.  Player fouls are not counted, but team fouls are.

9.      Before the 6th team foul …

a.      Non-shooting foul – keep possession and receive ball at the top of key.

b.      Shooting foul if basket made - points count and shoot one free throw.  Make or  miss, ball goes to other team.

c.       Shooting foul if basket not made – shoot 2 or 3 free throws, with final free throw a  live ball.

10.  On the 6th team foul and remainder of game …

a.      Non-shooting foul - shoot 1 free throw and keep ball at the top of key.

b.      Shooting foul if basket made - points count and keep ball at the top of key.

c.       Shooting foul if basket not made - shoot 2 or 3 free throws and keep ball at  top of key.

11.  On live free throw shot, if shooting team rebounds ball, they may shoot without taking back to 3-point line.  If non-shooting team rebounds ball, they must take past the 3- point line before shooting.

12.  The first team to score 30 points or the team with the most points at the end of the 20- minute running game clock will be declared the winner.

13.  Ties will be decided in 2-minute overtime after a coin toss for possession.  If the score is tied after the overtime, the team that played defense to start the overtime will have the first possession in a sudden death situation.

14.  Round-Robin Division ties: If there is a tie there will be a shoot-out to break the tie. Each team will present 3 players which will alternate free throws until 10 shots are taken by each team. The team with that makes the most free-throws wins.
